Get ready for another day of extreme heat and humidity. Today will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 90s. When you factor in the humidity, the heat index will soar above 100 degrees for much of the afternoon.
A cold front will move across the Dakotas later today, tonight and tomorrow and that will bring a chance of thunderstorms. Storms will develop across central and northern South Dakota late this afternoon and this evening and move east overnight tonight into tomorrow. Some storms will be severe with large hail and strong straight-line wind gusts being the main threat. A tornado or two is also possible. In addition to severe weather, storms will also have the potential to produce heavy rain. An inch or more of rainfall is possible through tomorrow morning.
There is a slight chance that we could see a few scattered thunderstorms in the Sioux Falls area by mid to late evening, however thunderstorms are more likely to develop late tonight and continue through tomorrow morning.
After tomorrow, the rest of the week and the weekend will be mostly sunny and dry. High temps will stay in the low to mid 80s through the weekend.
