Storms Today… Sunny, Not Humid Tomorrow
Today will be warm and humid with scattered storms. In Sioux Falls, the best chance of storms will be this morning as scattered thunderstorms move across much of central and eastern South Dakota into Minnesota and Iowa. Another line of storms will develop across northern and northeastern South Dakota this afternoon with yet another line of thunderstorms possible across western and central South Dakota late this afternoon into this evening. The last line of storms will dissipate as it moves east overnight.
As I mentioned, today will be warm and muggy. High temps will be back in the mid 80s with a dew point in the low 70s. That will pull the heat index back into the low 90s this afternoon.
A cold front will slide east of our region overnight, taking the heat, humidity and storms along with it. Wednesday will be windy and cooler with high temps around 80 degrees. Thursday will be sunny and warmer but still not terribly humid.
Enjoy the break from the heat and humidity on Wednesday and Thursday, because the summer sauna will be cranked to the maximum all weekend. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s to low 90s with the heat index approaching 100 degrees on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The weekend will be mostly sunny with just a slight chance of a random, isolated thunderstorm.
I don’t think we’re going to get much of a break from the heat, either. Long range models suggest that the warm, humid pattern will last well into next week.
