A Fantastic Labor Day Weekend!

We are going to kick off Labor Day weekend with a few scattered showers and thundershowers today. The rest of the holiday weekend will be absolutely fantastic!

Today will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers likely. In Sioux Falls, clouds will hang around most of the day with a chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Along and west of the James River, scattered showers and thunder showers are likely this morning with gradual clearing through the afternoon. High temps will range from the mid 70s in Sioux Falls and places along and east of the James River to the low 80s across central South Dakota.

The rest of the weekend will be sunny and mild with highs in the low to mid 80s Saturday, upper 80s to 90s on Sunday. Labor Day will be sunny with cooler highs in the 70s.

TODAY
Cloudy and cooler with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High: 72°. Wind: South 10-20 mph.

TONIGHT
Partly cloudy. Low: 61°. Wind: south 5-15 mph.

TOMORROW
Sunny. High: 82°. Wind: North 5-15 mph.

A Repeat of Yesterday

I really hope you liked yesterday because I have an almost exact duplicate of yesterday’s weather in the forecast for today. I say “almost” because the wind will be from the south to southeast which will make today slightly more humid than yesterday. High temps will range from around 80 degrees in Sioux Falls to the low 90s across central South Dakota this afternoon.

There is a slight chance of scattered showers or a thunderstorm in the forecast for Friday. Otherwise, the rest of the week will be just like today – give or take a degree or two.

Labor Day weekend is lookin’ fantastic! As of right now, all the data I have is suggesting sunshine with highs in the low to mid 80s. Central and western South Dakota will warm into the upper 80s to low 90s.

TODAY:
Sunny. High: 80°. Wind: South becoming southeast 5-10 mph.

TONIGHT:
Clear. Low: 57°. Wind: South at 5 mph.

TOMORROW:
Sunny. High: 83°. Wind: South 5-10 mph.

Sunny, Cooler Than Average

Today and the rest of the week will be mostly sunny and cooler than you’d expect for the middle of August. High temps will range from the mid 70s in Sioux Falls to the low 80s across central South Dakota this afternoon. Tomorrow will actually be the warmest day of the week with high temps in the low to mid 80s. The rest of the week and the weekend will be cooler with highs only reaching the mid to upper 70s.

While most of the week will be dry, I do have a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for Friday afternoon, Friday night and Saturday.

I know that temperatures in the 70s hardly qualify for “dog days of summer” and it could be a while before we get there. Our long-range models keep temps at or below average through most of August and then bring the real heat back by Labor Day weekend. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Mostly Cloudy, Scattered Storms Today

Unfortunately today will not be ideal for viewing the solar eclipse. If you are in Aberdeen or Pierre, you’ll have a better chance because there’ll be a few more breaks in the clouds, but Sioux Falls will be mostly cloudy with a chance of scattered thunderstorms throughout the day. There may, however, be a few breaks in the clouds so don’t give up. Also, I know you don’t need one more person telling you not to look directly at the sun… but don’t look directly at the sun!

We have a special section dedicated to the eclipse at our website, go to www.ksfy.com/eclipse.

Now the weather: Scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into this evening and a couple of storms could be strong to severe across southeastern South Dakota eastern Nebraska, western Iowa and southern Minnesota. Hail, wind even a tornado will be possible. High temps will reach the upper 70s to low 80s this afternoon.

The rest of the week will be mostly sunny and dry with highs in the mid to upper 70s. There is a slight chance of scattered storms late Friday night into Saturday morning. The rest of the weekend will be dry with highs in the low 80s.

Cooler, Less Humid Days Ahead

Showers and thunderstorms will exit our region from west to east this morning. The sun will gradually claw its way out from behind the clouds this afternoon and it will be cooler and not as humid. High temps will range from the low to mid 80s with a light northeasterly breeze.

The rest of the week and the weekend will be sunny and comfortable. High temperatures will hold steady in the low to mid 80s into next week.
