A Sunny, Warm Start to the Week
It is the first week of school for a lot of kids and we are off to a relatively quiet, summery start. Today will be mostly sunny, warm and humid with temperatures ranging from the mid to low low 80s in Sioux Falls to the mid to upper 80s along the James River to the low 90s across central South Dakota. Scattered thunderstorms are possible along the James River late this afternoon into this evening with storms redeveloping along and east of I-29 late this evening and overnight tonight. The overall severe weather threat for later today and tonight is low, however, one or two storms could produce marginally severe hail, straight line wind gusts or even a weak tornado.
After one more warm, humid day tomorrow, cooler air will arrive and take us comfortably through the rest of the week. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be mostly sunny with below average high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Scattered thunderstorms are back in the forecast for late Friday, Friday night into Saturday morning. After that, the rest of the upcoming weekend is looking good. Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy with just a slight chance of a random, isolated thunderstorm. Highs will be slightly warmer – in the low to mid 80s – this weekend.
