Sunny Today, More Rain on the Way

Today is going to be a really nice fall day. There will be plenty of sunshine with afternoon temps in the low 60s and a light northwesterly breeze.

I wish I had better news for farmers that are struggling to get the combine in the field. More rain is in the forecast for tonight, tomorrow and Friday. Unfortunately, it looks like a lot of that rain will fall across the same places that had the heavy rain earlier this week. While I don’t think there’ll be quite as much rain this time around, we’re still looking at one-half inch to an inch of rain in Sioux Falls with heavier amounts south and east of the Sioux Falls area. Parts of Iowa and Minnesota could easily get an inch or two of rain through Friday night. Stay with us for updates. We’ll get more specific with rain amounts later today and tomorrow morning.

The rain will end by Saturday morning and that will lead us into a really nice weekend. Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 70s Saturday, mid to upper 60s on Sunday.

I do have some good news for farmers. After the rain ends on Friday, we should stay dry for a while. Our long-range models keep us mostly dry through next week and beyond. Hopefully that will give you some time to dry out and get harvest rolling.

Rain Ending, Becoming Mostly Sunny

There was plenty of rain overnight. Sioux Falls received over 2.8 inches through the night. That brings our total to 4.2″ since Saturday. When the rain ends, I’ll post a complete list of rainfall totals at KSFY.com. If you have rain to report, let me know and I’ll get it on the list. Tweet me (@shawncable) or drop me an email (shawn.cable@ksfy.com.)

The rain will gradually end from west to east this morning with clouds decreasing by around lunchtime. It’s actually going to be a pretty nice day. This afternoon will be mostly sunny with highs in the 60s.

High temps will stay in the 60s through the rest of the work week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will return Thursday and Friday.

As of right now the weekend is lookin’ good! Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs in the 60s to low 70s.

Another Sunny, Spectacular Fall Day

Sunny, warm weather will continue today. High temps will reach the mid 70s this afternoon with just a light northwesterly breeze.

A weak cool front will slide across the Dakotas from north to south tonight. There isn’t enough moisture for rain, but temperatures will drop a few degrees behind the front. It will still be sunny, but high temps will drop to the upper 60s to low 70s tomorrow, which is still pretty close to average for this time of year.

The weekend will be mostly cloudy and a bit breezy with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. As of right now, I think our best chance of rain will be Saturday night and Sunday. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s, but I’m afraid the wind will make it feel a bit chilly throughout the weekend.

Temperatures will stay at or slightly above-average into next week with a chance of scattered showers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
